Giving Is Gorges at BTI, August 28, 2015

by | Aug 13, 2015

Giving is GorgesHelp inspire and train the next generation of scientists during Ithaca’s next  Giving is Gorgeous day on August 28, 2015.

This one-day fundraiser on August 28 will support the BTI’s high school internship program, which pairs local students with seasoned scientists to give them a six-week, hands-on laboratory experience. The campaign is already 69 percent funded, but this one day of giving could fully fund this program.

BTI’s internship program is designed to foster students’ academic and career development and to encourage them to pursue future careers in plant science. The experience culminates in a scientific symposium where students present their work to faculty, friends and family [[link to Facebook with photos of the development event]].

Though in the past, the program has been funded by grants from the National Science Foundation, support for high school internships is dwindling. To continue this in-demand program, BTI is asking the community to contribute through Giving is Gorgeous. Your support will ensure that local students will be ready to be the next generation of scientists.

Save the date: #GivingIsGorges 2015 is Aug 28. BTI is  part of Tompkins County’s first ever 24 hour local online giving day. Visit http://bit.ly/GivingBTI to find out more!
