In 1924, BTI was founded with the belief that basic plant research leads to real benefits for people and our planet. Today, BTI staff and researcher motivations remain the same –to improve agriculture, protect the environment, and enhance human health. Our dedicated researchers and support staff, who represent more than 40 countries, strive towards this mission every day.
BTI’s focus on basic research has many potential applications, from improving crops by increasing yields or nutritional content, to decreasing the need for harmful fertilizers and pesticides. Other research could lead to the development of inexpensive plant-based medicines and vaccines, or even shed new light on how the human immune system works. With aims like these in mind, scientists at BTI study life at a variety of levels, from molecular biology and chemistry, to genomics and enabling technologies.
BTI is an independent, non-profit institution affiliated with Cornell University and is located on the Ithaca, New York campus. Repeatedly ranked as one of the Best Companies to Work for in New York, you’ll be part of a team dedicated to providing a supportive and encouraging work environment.
