Dr. Lisa Meihls Awarded USDA/NIFA Grant

by | Aug 29, 2011

Dr. Lisa MeihlsDr. Lisa Meihls of Georg Jander’s lab was awarded a $130,000 USDA/NIFA grant to study molecular mechanisms of resistance to Bacillus thuringiensis Cry3Bb1 toxin in Diabrotica virgifera (western corn root worm, WCR). She aims to identify how populations of western corn root worm have become resistant to a Bt toxin. The results of this research may lead to improved control of WCR and other pests, which may help keep U.S. agriculture competitive and help secure the nation’s energy future through renewable biofuels. This research will also address NIFA’s goal of increasing the ability of the nation’s scientific community to meet the current agricultural challenges.
