BTI Promotes Faculty Member Fei
David Stern, president of the Boyce Thompson Institute (BTI), is delighted to announce that faculty member Zhangjun Fei has been promoted to Full Professor on February 27, 2019. Fei was evaluated on his achievements to date and the potential he possesses.
Fei has made a name for himself as one of the world’s foremost experts in mining genomic, transcriptomic, proteomic and metabolomic data to make new biological discoveries. He is also one of BTI’s most prolific authors, with more than 200 publications to his credit since 2004.
Both internal and external colleagues strongly and unequivocally recommended promotion, providing many examples of Fei’s important contributions to science. Just a few examples of these comments include that Fei’s sometimes esoteric work is “of the highest scientific quality, but easy to understand by the non-bioinformatics specialist”; that he works “at the cutting edge of bioinformatics, and develop[s] excellent, recognized, useful tools that have an impact”; and many colleagues attested to his remarkable productivity and intellectual leadership.
“Fei has succeeded in a strategy that combines collaborative work with a very broad and international series of partners, with activities that create tools and algorithms that represent intellectual advances in their own right,” says Stern. “It is perhaps not surprising that this has correlated with an extremely strong record of accomplishments in scholarship and grantsmanship.”
