Aspirations
Research
Solidify BTI as a hub of pioneering research by fostering collaborative environments and securing diverse, sustainable funding streams that empower fundamental research that fuels the translational program.
Finances
To achieve financial stability and balance, we need to increase revenues from diverse sources to fund the discovery and translational research we desire to do.
Management
Optimize BTI’s organizational framework by streamlining processes, modernizing technology, and revising policies to promote a democratic power structure and enhance transparency and accountability. This will empower employees, facilitate internal and external collaboration, attract talent, and boost productivity.
Translational Research
Develop a culture and structure that encourages scientists to participate in translational research, promotes the understanding of its impact, increases the Institute’s capacity by building industry and foundation relationships, and complements each lab’s work for innovative agricultural solutions. This will preserve discovery bandwidth and provide translational research training opportunities.
Relations and Impact
We aim to forge transformative partnerships and expand BTI’s footprint through collaborations with global academic institutions (including Cornell), the agriculture industry, and other corporate partners. By focusing on our mission and vision, we strive to elevate our impact, broaden our international reach, launch community science projects, and become known as a center of research training excellence.
Positioning
Elevate BTI to a globally recognized leader in plant science research and education and be known as a fun and cool place to do plant science and solve real-world problems. BTI will lead the narrative about plant science by communicating our unique selling proposition and conveying the importance and impact of plant science through bite-sized, shareable, targeted communication that personalizes plant science for the broader community.
Morale
Build a workplace culture our community can be proud of by emphasizing work-life balance, enhancing transparency through clear, consistent communication, and nurturing meaningful relationships and respect across departments. Continuously provide development opportunities, underpinned by clear expectations and strong leadership, to retain and attract top talent.
Decadal Vision
The Plant Science Research Network (PSRN) was assembled to develop an inclusive, common vision across the plant science research community to promote interdisciplinary integration of ideas and approaches.
The Decadal Vision, a collaborative effort of the PSRN, outlines bold, innovative solutions to guide investments and research in plant science and was developed as a powerful tool for communication and advocacy.
