BTI’s focus on basic research has many potential applications, from improving crops by increasing yields or nutritional content, to decreasing the need for harmful fertilizers and pesticides. Other research could lead to the development of inexpensive plant-based medicines and vaccines, or even shed new light on how the human immune system works. With aims like these in mind, scientists at BTI study life at a variety of levels, from molecular biology and chemistry, to genomics and enabling technologies.
