Lucas is currently a student at Hamilton College. During this past summer, Lucas worked in the Kochian lab with mentor Owen Hoekenga. In the lab, his work investigated aluminum tolerance in maize. He used root growth assays and association mapping to identify candidate genes for aluminum tolerance. For this project, Lucas learned about hydroponics, PCR, DNA extractions and general lab protocols. He also got to experience field and greenhouse work.
