Soils have an important impact on the development of plant systems. Soil is a heterogeneous mixture of three basic ingredients: clay, silt, and sand. Soils also contain organic matter. In this lab activity, students will select different materials and create soil types. Students plant seeds and compare which soils offer the best growing conditions for different plants.
