Postgraduates Hosted Annual BTI Symposium, September 25, 2014
Every year, the Postgraduate Society (PGS) organizes the Annual BTI Science Symposium (formerly called the BTI Retreat). All BTI employees and affiliates are welcome to register for the event and learn more about plant research! This year, the 2014 Science Symposium was held at Celebrations Banquet Facility & Catering on Thursday, September 25th.
This was an all day, institute-wide science symposium that included seminar talks, a PGS poster session, lunch, and socializing opportunities for the BTI community. This year the theme was Celebrating 90 Years of Plant Research, honoring BTI’s 90th anniversary. PGS members were happy to welcome our own Dr. Frank Schroeder, postdoctoral researchers Daniela Floss and Patricia Manosalva, BTI Emeritus Professor Dr. Robert Granados and Dr. Maureen Hanson (from Cornell), all of whom presented their research at the Symposium. A discussion about postgraduate training and education was also held – this panel featured BTI’s Dr. Eric Richards and Dr. David Stern, and Cornell University BEST Program’s Susi Varvyanis. This year, the Annual Symposium hosted 80 participants, which included PIs, postdocs, graduate students, technicians, and other BTI staff. Thank you to everyone who made this year’s symposium such a successful event!
The Annual BTI Science Symposium is designed to stimulate inter-laboratory collaboration and discussion. All researchers are invited to join PGS to help invite future speakers and organize events.
