Apply for an Internship

**If you are writing a recommendation letter for an applicant, please click here.**

Due to the pandemic, we are currently only opening applications for undergraduate students currently enrolled at an academic institution. While we are anticipating hosting our REU program in-person, the global pandemic may impact dates, length, requirements, and feasibility.

Applicants: Follow these four steps

1st – Complete Registration (IMPORTANT)

Create an account and login to the application system by clicking the “Apply Here” button at the bottom of this page. Due to the uncertainty around the pandemic, we are delaying the local high school internship application. High school students who want to be updated when opportunities become available should share their contact info here.

Create an applicant account AND complete the CONTACT INFORMATION section.

Be sure to use your current e-mail address as your username and choose a password you will remember.

Before you submit anything, enter the name and e-mail address of both recommenders. Be sure to press the “Send E-mail” button to send your letter of recommendation request immediately.

NOTE: Sending the e-mail request immediately will help ensure your recommenders submit your letters before the application deadline, while allowing you to complete and submit the application at your own pace. Please follow up with your recommenders after a few days to ensure they received the request.

You can login to your application account anytime to see the status of your letters.

Faculty and teachers are often the best recommenders, but anyone who can speak of your abilities and potential can submit a letter.

2nd – Assemble Your Application Materials

Please have the following items ready before you begin your application:

Academic Transcripts

Unofficial transcripts are preferred, but both official and unofficial are accepted. Upload a scanned version of your transcripts through the application form, or have an electronic copy of your official transcripts sent to internships@btiscience.org.

Current GPA
Personal Statement Essay

(500 to 700 words). Describe your interest in the internship, what you hope to gain, and how the opportunity fits into your future academic and career plans. If you have any relevant research experience, please remember to include that as well.

Resume

The resume is optional for high school applicants, required for undergraduate applications.

3rd – Research Participating Faculty and Intern Projects.

Before completing your application, visit the Faculty and Projects page. Become familiar with faculty and research projects that will be available over the summer. You should select up to five projects of interest on the application form.

4th – Complete the Internship Application Form.

Once you submit your completed application, you will ONLY have the ability to update your contact information and recommenders.

Important Note: Make sure you add internships@btiscience.org AND info@bticornellinternships.com to your e-mail contacts to ensure you receive all of our e-mail communication. If you do not receive a confirmation e-mail shortly after creating an applicant account and/or submitting your complete application, check your spam folder. Please remember to ask your recommenders to do the same.
